Virginia Allen, LCSW is a therapist specializing in guiding children, teens, adults and families in learning new tools for healthy growth and happy, enhanced lives. She works through individual, family and play therapy seeing all age ranges from 4 years old and up.  Virginia is a graduate of LSU and University of Texas with a specialization in Children and Families.  She is a native New Orleanian where she maintains a private practice.

With over 23 years experience as a therapist, Virginia works with a broad spectrum of clients.  Among her areas of expertise are children of divorce, communication tools, anger/stress management, self esteem enhancement and ADHD struggles.  For a complete list of specialty areas please see theHome page.  Her work experience includes student evaluator in the Louisiana school system/conducting IEP's, therapist for a children's treatment center, and therapist in a psychiatric hospital setting, where she also served as the supervisor for graduate interns for several years.  She then entered private practice in 2004.

Approach

Virginia's approach is both interactive and eclectic, utilizing an array of modalities to best fit each client's needs.  She provides support, education and practical feedback to help clients learn new tools and skills to effectively address personal life challenges.   She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques into each session, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Play Therapy. (Please see the FAQ andWhat is Play Therapy pages for more information on these methods.)  Other approaches she utilizes include positive psychology, client centered therapy, Gestalt therapy, behavioral modification, psychodynamic therapy, goal/solution oriented therapy and family systems therapy.  With compassion and understanding, she works with each individual to help them attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
